Railway Lounge Access in India 2026: Which Credit Cards Actually Get You Into an IRCTC Executive Lounge

IRCTC is rolling out Executive Lounges at major railway stations, and only a small set of co-branded credit cards get you in free — a different, shorter list than the cards that unlock an airport lounge. This guide covers exactly which cards carry confirmed railway lounge access in 2026, how many free visits each offers per year, what you need at the door, and how this much smaller network compares to the airport lounge programmes most travel cards are actually built around.

Airport lounge access gets all the marketing attention in travel credit card reviews. A separate, much smaller programme exists at railway stations — IRCTC Executive Lounges — with its own entry rules and a short, specific list of cards that actually get you in free, and most cardholders have no idea whether theirs is on it.

What an IRCTC Executive Lounge Actually Is

IRCTC has been rolling out Executive Lounges at major stations as part of a planned network across roughly 49 locations, with the New Delhi lounge already operational and more planned across cities including Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Howrah, Hyderabad, Pune, Lucknow, Patna, Ahmedabad and Jaipur. Each lounge offers air-conditioned seating, Wi-Fi, snacks and beverages, and a travel desk — built for passengers with a long wait between trains, not the pre-flight crowd an airport lounge serves. Entry is checked against your train ticket, and bookings can be made in advance through IRCTC's own channels or by walking in where capacity allows.

CardFree VisitsHow It Works
IRCTC HDFC Bank RuPay Credit Card8 per year (2 per quarter)Present the card plus a valid train ticket at any IRCTC Executive Lounge
IRCTC SBI Platinum Card4 per year (1 per quarter)Same entry rule; benefit applies to the primary cardholder only

Both benefits are stated directly on the issuing bank's own card page, which is why this list is shorter than what some aggregator roundups claim — a few other issuers are reported elsewhere to offer similar access, but we could not confirm those specifics on the bank's own website, so they're left out here rather than repeated second-hand. If you hold a card not listed above, check your issuer's own benefits page or the back of your card rather than assuming either way.

Railway lounge access and airport lounge access are separate programmes run on entirely different networks, and a card carrying one doesn't necessarily carry the other — our best travel credit cards guide and airport lounge access guide cover cards built specifically around flight-side lounges, which is a much larger network than the handful of IRCTC Executive Lounges currently live. If your travel is mostly by air, chasing railway lounge access specifically isn't worth prioritising; it only matters if you regularly have a genuine wait between trains at one of the stations where a lounge already exists.

Is a Free Lounge Visit Worth Chasing on Its Own?

There's no official rupee value published for a single IRCTC lounge visit, unlike the per-visit value airport lounge programmes sometimes quote. As a rough, editorial estimate based on comparable paid lounge access elsewhere, a visit is worth somewhere in the ₹300-₹600 range in comfort and amenities — not a number to build a card application around. For most travellers, the realistic value is a more comfortable wait during a long layover between trains, worth having if you already hold a qualifying card for its other benefits, not a reason to apply for one on its own.

If You Already Book Train Tickets Regularly

Our full review of the IRCTC SBI Platinum card covers its 10% value-back on AC-class IRCTC bookings alongside this lounge benefit in more detail, and our guide to co-branded credit cards places IRCTC-linked cards next to other partner cards like Flipkart Axis and Swiggy HDFC, so you can see where a railway-specific card fits against the broader field.
