Our verdict

SBI Cashback is one of India's simplest online cashback cards — 5% cashback on online spends, credited directly to the statement, with no merchant list to track. The catches are caps and exclusions: online cashback is limited to ₹2,000 per statement cycle (reached at about ₹40,000 of online spend), total cashback to ₹4,000 per cycle, and fuel, utilities, rent, wallet, insurance, education, jewellery, railways, government payments, gaming, tolls and EMI spends earn nothing. At ₹999/year (waived at ₹2L spend), regular online shoppers can recover the fee within a few months.

Pros

  • 5% cashback on online spends, up to ₹2,000 per statement cycle — no merchant list to track
  • Direct cashback to statement — no points, no conversion, no portal
  • Fuel surcharge waiver included
  • Annual fee waived at ₹2L spend

Cons

  • Total cashback capped at ₹4,000 per statement cycle (₹2,000 online, ₹2,000 offline)
  • Many categories earn nothing — fuel, utilities, rent, wallet, insurance, education, jewellery, railways, government, gaming, tolls and EMI
  • Only 1% on offline spends
  • No lounge access; 3.5% forex markup

Frequently Asked Questions

Does 5% apply to Amazon, Flipkart, and Zomato?

Yes — no merchant restrictions means you earn 5% on Amazon, Flipkart, Myntra, Zomato, Swiggy, utility payments, OTT subscriptions, and any other online transaction. The only exclusions are EMI transactions and cash withdrawals.

When is the cashback credited?

SBI Cashback card credits cashback directly to your outstanding balance within 2–3 working days after the statement closes. It shows as a statement credit, not points.

Is the ₹5,000/month cap per billing cycle?

Yes — the cap resets each statement cycle. If your cycle closes on the 5th, your ₹5,000 cashback cap renews on that date every month.
