Our verdict
HDFC UPI RuPay Credit Card solves the UPI gap: using credit at millions of QR merchants who otherwise don't accept credit cards. It is issued only as an additional virtual card on an existing HDFC primary card, costs ₹99 a year (waived at ₹25,000 of annual spend), and earns 3% CashPoints on groceries, dining and PayZapp, 2% on utilities and 1% on other spends.
Pros
- Works at any UPI QR code — massive merchant acceptance
- Low ₹99 annual fee, waived at ₹25,000 of annual spend
- 3% on groceries, dining and PayZapp, 2% on utilities — competitive for a low-fee card
- Virtual card that is added to your existing HDFC card
Cons
- RuPay has limited international acceptance vs Visa/Mastercard
- No lounge or travel perks, and no fuel surcharge waiver
- Rewards are capped at 500 CashPoints a month (about ₹125), and fuel, rent, EMI and government spends earn nothing
- UPI CC not accepted by all apps on all merchants
