Our verdict
HDFC Diners Privilege is a mid-fee premium card: 8 domestic and 4 international lounge visits a year, up to 10X reward points on SmartBuy and 5X on Swiggy and Zomato online orders, at a ₹1,000 annual fee that is waived on ₹3 lakh of annual spend. The 3.5% forex markup and the Diners Club network acceptance gap (fewer terminals than Visa/Mastercard) are the main limitations.
Pros
- 8 domestic lounge visits a year
- 4 international lounge visits a year
- 5X on Swiggy and Zomato online food orders (about 5% back), with the extra reward capped at ₹1,250 a month
- Up to 10X on SmartBuy spends (up to about 10% back), available on the portal only
Cons
- Diners Club network has limited POS terminal acceptance vs Visa/Mastercard — carry a backup card
- Fee waiver at ₹3L requires ₹25,000/month spend
- 3.5% forex markup is high for a card pitched at travellers
- International acceptance in Southeast Asia and smaller markets can fail
- SmartBuy-dependent for maximum value — adds platform lock-in
